Timeglider

This is a tool you could be using right now, as you work through your Social Studies unit - signing up is free and safe. This online tool lets you build excellent visual time lines - you can put up images, comment boxes to elaborate on any point, and links to other sites etc. I rate this 9.5/10. It took me a short time to work through how to use it, and once sorted, it is easy and visually powerful to represent your info.

Deadliest Catch Game: Deadliest Catch: Discovery Channel

Deadliest Catch Game: Deadliest Catch: Discovery Channel

An example of some of the excellent online games and simulations that are available based on tv programmes. You have to make decisions while working within a budget, on your type of boat, deckhands you hire, equipment you take, and where you'll base yourself in the Barring Sea. At the end you can see how much profit you've made. Find, evaluate, rate and describe other such excellent sites on the blog.

www.tubechop.com

This is a great new tool for selecting parts of a Youtube video, and chopping out the other parts, and being able to share widely to other applications such as twitter, FB and email it to friends or yourself. This is a smart tool, as you can source excellent resources for projects from videos, and then select a specific part, and insert it. Imagine a Glogster poster with a link to your specific portion of a Youtube video. Rating 9/10.

Congratulations ....

www.wordle.net/

This is a great site FREE - user-friendly, can print out copy of page you create - Use it to create title pages, charts to represent frequency/popularity of something you are researching, or to create a snap-shot of a website - it pulls random words from any website and inserts them into the word chart. Rating - 8/10 - It would be fantastic if you could embed your page into any other digital media, powerpoint, etc. You can take a screenshot and save that and embed it that way I guess.
